We loved Bertie's
"Thank you so much for allowing us to spend the week at Bertie’s. We had hoped for some skiing but alas the slopes weren’t open, however the area is so fabulous we had a brilliant time anyway, lots of walking in the surrounding mountains and lochs. Ballater is a lovely village friendly people and some great shops especially for food , everything you need. The cottage is so comfortable warm and homely and very well equipped, just wished we could stay longer." - February 2022

Fabulous Cottage!
"Bertie Cottage is a real gem. Cosy, homely and in a fabulous location, being handy for everything and yet peaceful and quiet.
On arrival, there was a lovely loaf of local bakery bread waiting for us, along with teabags, coffee, sugar and a dish of chocolates. Such a thoughful touch - thank you Catriona.
The cottage itself was immaculately clean and tastefully decorated and really felt like a home from home. The log burning stove was lovely to come back to after a day of hiking and there was a good supply of logs and kindling ready for us.
We all slept well, thanks to the very comfortable beds and made full use of the corner bath - especially after climbing Lochnagar! Our dog loved his holiday and enjoyed playing in the garden, which was safe and secure and on a sunny day, was a lovely little suntrap. A wonderful holiday and we hope to visit again!" - August 2021
Fabulous cottage in the best location!
"Loved Bertie Cottage.... beautiful cottage, well equipped, in a very central location with easy parking and a shed for bikes. The garden was a real sun trap and much bigger than it looks in the pictures! Despite being so close to the village square it was very quiet. Definetly one to come back to!" - July 2021
Lovely Cottage
"Great cottage, walking distance to supermarket ( Co-op). Very cosy with log burning fire. Comfortable beds and bed linen v good quality. Beautiful understated decor, plenty storage space. Lovely garden area (unfortunately not able to use due to weather) Ballater great place and lots of walking, outdoor activity in the area. Also great cafes in Ballater." - October 2020

Great Place to stay and Access the Caingorms!
"Comfortable cottage with everything you might want including a place to lock up your bicycles. Great to sit outside on the deck in the sun and enjoy a cup of tea after a day of walking or cycling. "Fantastic property in an ideal location. Walking distance to all amenities. Bedrooms great size, ample living facilities everything you possibly needed in the kitchen with lovely dining room attached. Perfect Pet Friendly Cottage
"This is easily one of the best holiday cottages that we have rented; and we've rented many over the last 30 years. Pristine condition inside and out, very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Nice little touches such as milk, tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival, and provision of soap, washing powder, dishwasher cleaner, and fuel for the log fire. Central location and very close to shops, cafes etc, and most importantly only a 9 iron from the golf course! Ballater and surrounding area is very attractive, with lots to see and countless attractive walks of varying difficulty. Some of the scenery is incredible. We'll be back." - May 2019

Thank you so much Catriona for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage. It was very spacious and comfortable for our family of 5, the beds are really comfy, the linen crisp and fresh. The log burner is so cosy, lovely end to a day walking miles snuggling in the lounge with the fire on!
Upon our arrival, Catriona had kindly left some milk in the fridge and a loaf of bread out for us - very much appreciated after a long journey there. Little personal touches like this made for a great host, you have really thought of everything!
Ballater is a beautiful area, with lots to see and do right on your doorstep. We enjoyed the local walks and sights, a great base with lots of lovely cafes and places to eat. The co-op is handy and just up the road from the cottage.
We have had a fantastic week and hope to return one day."- February 2019

"A Christmas to remember at Bertie Cottage
Just back from spending Christmas at Bertie Cottage.
Going away from home at this time of year was a spur of the moment decision for us but we knew from our first contact with the owners we had made the right choice. Very informative from the get-go and promptly answered all our queries regarding the Cottage and the local area.
Bertie Cottage itself was perfect - it had everything we needed in the well equipped kitchen to produce our Xmas lunch which was served in the dining room which, like the rest of the cottage, was tastefully decorated for the season.
The bedrooms are spacious with plenty of storage and the beds themselves are very comfortable.
The lounge was cosy even without the log burner but having it on just added to our experience.
We could tell the owners had taken a lot of effort to get the cottage just right and they certainly succeeded.
Ballater and the surrounding area was great for us - plenty of local walks, the pubs and restaurants catered to all our needs and the shops were very varied.
Our only regret was that we just booked one week!" - December 2018

"Perfect family cottage in the heart of Ballater
Bertie Cottage is a beautifully appointed stone cottage in Ballater. The location is superb, within easy walking distance to the co-op and the centre of the quaint village. The cottage comfortably accommodated our family of 4 and grandparents. It is well equipped with all the amenities, comfortable beds, clean, fresh linen and has excellent wi-fi. There are many walks from the front door, one of our favourites was walking up the hill of Craigendarroch oakwoods to be rewarded with beautiful views of Ballater. We had a very happy stay in Bertie's cottage and if we are ever fortunate enough to be back in this beautiful part of the world, we will book Bertie cottage without hesitation. Bertie Cottage is so cosy and comfortable. The furnishings are very tasteful and the house is spotlessly clean. The kitchen is well equipped and everything is very well organised. It is near enough to the village centre for shops, cafes and restaurants but very quiet and peaceful. The garden has a lovely view. Ballater is a great base for walking, cycling and visiting castles and gardens. I have been to many holiday cottages and this up there with the best." - August 2018
"Spec'd up as though it was your own
From our booking the owners were keen for us to enjoy our week in Ballater. The level of comfort is uncompromising from the new beds to the sophisticated coffee making facility. In kitting out this place the owners did not go to the second hand places nor auctions of old stuff. Even in August, the heating was set to come on in the morning and evening (so thoughtful), which we had to switch off. Everything was supplied down to the dish washer tablets and washing machine detergent. The owners even left a loaf of bread for our arrival, perfect hosts. Clearly the philosophy of those dear hosts is one of enjoy this home and area like we do. We shall return." - August 2018
"Beautiful Bertie Cottage...absolutely perfect!
We had a short break in Ballater and were very lucky to be able to book into Bertie Cottage. It is totally gorgeous and absolutely every detail seems to have been considered by the owners to make this the most comfortable and well-appointed holiday home. When we were there the weather was beautiful and we sat in the garden for breakfast and back to sit in the sun for evening drinks - the patio is the perfect all-day sun trap. Loved that we could take our walking boots off at the back door at the bench and boot scraper - neat touch! The interior is pristine, all the home comforts without the clutter, yet very comfortable and immaculately clean. We didn't have our golf clubs but there was a great lockable storage space outside, large enough for clubs and bikes. This was my first stay in Ballater but we will definitely be back to Bertie!
